Privacy Policy
Akii — Privacy Policy
Operated by Akii LLC (Puerto Rico)
Last Updated: November 26, 2025
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Akii LLC (“Akii”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Akii mobile app, a photo-sharing service built around real, in-app captures and a shared feed without algorithmic ranking or follower counts.
By creating an account or using Akii, you agree to this Privacy Policy and to our Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. Scope
This Policy covers:
- Data you provide directly when you register or use the app
- Data created as you interact inside Akii (photos, likes, comments, Gente / Olvidados)
- Data processed by our infrastructure provider(s) on our behalf (for example, Supabase Realtime)
It does not cover services you use outside Akii (your email provider, your mobile carrier, your device OS, etc.).
3. Data we collect
3.1 Account data
We collect and store:
- Email address
- Username (for example, ianramos2). We do not require or store a separate full-name display field.
- Password (stored as a hashed value, never in plain text)
- Age confirmation or similar signal to enforce minimum age rules
Akii does not use separate profile avatars. The only images in the app are photos taken with Akii’s own camera.
This information is required to create and maintain your account and to apply basic eligibility rules.
3.2 Content you create
Akii only works with photos taken using Akii’s camera. No uploads from your gallery, no AI images, no external imports as the core posting flow.
We collect and store:
- Photos you take in the app
- Captions or text you attach to photos
- Comments you write on your own or others’ photos
- Likes (Laiks) you give or receive, including which user liked which photo and when
- In-app messaging content and related metadata, when you use messaging features
When you delete a photo:
- The file is deleted from storage.
- The corresponding database record in our public.photos table may remain (with the path removed or marked) so that old message threads, comments, and likes do not break. In those contexts, the photo may appear as “unavailable” or similar.
Users are free to take photos and write captions on any topic. We do not explicitly classify your content into special categories (for example, politics, religion, health), although such topics may appear if users choose to post them.
3.3 Social graph data (Gente / Olvidados)
Akii does not use followers/following or public follower counts.
Instead, we maintain:
- Gente: Accounts with which there has been at least one reciprocal interaction inside Akii (for example, you liked or commented on them and they did the same with you). For each Gente relationship, we store timestamps of interactions to order the list by “latest interaction,” not by any hidden score.
- Olvidados: Accounts you explicitly mark as Olvidados so they are removed from your visible social map and related views.
When you delete your account, associated Gente and Olvidados records, likes, and comments are deleted in cascade according to our database rules. The only remaining references tied to photos are the rows in public.photos where the file path has already been removed if the photo was deleted.
No public rankings, follower counts, or visible “popularity scores” are generated from this data.
3.4 Technical and infrastructure logs
Inside the app, we do not intentionally collect or store:
- IP addresses
- Detailed device identifiers
- Structured analytics about your taps or navigation paths
However, our infrastructure providers (currently including Supabase and Supabase Realtime) may automatically receive and temporarily log standard technical data such as IP address, request timestamps, and basic connection metadata as part of providing their hosting and real-time services. This is used at the infrastructure level for security, performance, and reliability.
3.5 Support and communication
At this time, user support is handled via email.
If you contact us at our support email, we will process:
- Your email address
- The content of your message
- Any additional information you voluntarily include to help us understand and resolve the issue
We do not yet offer in-app support or ticketing.
4. How we use your data
We use data only as needed to run Akii, keep it safe, and gradually improve it, consistent with the core idea of real moments, non-monetized interaction, and a shared feed.
4.1 To provide the service
- Create and maintain your account
- Authenticate you when you log in
- Store and show your photos, captions, likes, comments, and messages
- Operate the shared, reverse-chronological feed (no interest-based recommendation algorithms)
- Maintain your Gente and Olvidados state and order your Gente list by latest interaction
4.2 To maintain safety and integrity
- Enforce our Terms and Conditions and basic content rules (for example, prohibitions on nudity and abusive behavior, as defined in the Terms)
- Investigate misuse or technical abuse of the service
- Protect the rights, property, and safety of users and Akii LLC
4.3 To improve and debug
- Understand, in aggregate, which parts of the product are used and which are not (based mainly on server-side events and technical logs from our infrastructure provider)
- Debug issues and crashes using technical information available at the database and hosting level
- Improve stability and reliability over time
We do not turn likes, comments, or Gente data into public popularity scores, visible rankings of people, or similar social scoring systems.
4.4 Regional notes
Akii is currently being distributed in:
- United States and Canada
- Spain
- Latin America and the Caribbean
Depending on where you live, your local law may grant you specific privacy rights (for example, in jurisdictions with data protection laws similar to the GDPR or other regional frameworks). Section 7 describes the core rights we try to honor consistently.
5. How we share data
We do not sell your personal data.
We may share data in these limited ways:
5.1 Service providers
We use third-party providers to host and operate the app’s infrastructure, including:
- Database and storage
- Real-time updates (for example, Supabase Realtime)
These providers process your data solely to provide services to us and are bound by contractual terms and security obligations.
5.2 Other users
Within the app, other users can see, according to Akii’s design:
- Your username
- Photos you post, with their captions
- Comments you make on public content
- That you exist in their Gente list when there has been real two-way interaction
Likes work differently:
- Only the owner of a photo can see which users liked that photo.
- There are no public like counts as a performance scoreboard.
5.3 Legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request
- Protect the safety, rights, or property of users, Akii, or the public
- Enforce our Terms and prevent fraud, abuse, or security problems
5.4 Business transfers
If Akii LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, asset sale, or similar transaction, user information may be transferred as part of the business, subject to this Privacy Policy.
We do not use third-party advertising networks or interest-based ad profiling.
6. Data retention
- Account data is retained while your account remains active.
- Content and interaction data (photos, captions, comments, likes, Gente / Olvidados, messages) are retained as long as necessary to operate the service.
- When you delete a photo, the file is removed from storage, and the database row is updated so that the photo no longer appears as normal content. Existing conversations and references may show it as unavailable.
- When you delete your account, Gente and Olvidados records, likes, and comments associated with your user ID are removed in cascade following our database rules.
- Technical and infrastructure logs held by our providers are kept for limited periods consistent with their internal retention policies, mainly for security and reliability.
Some information may remain in backups for a limited time until those backups are cycled out.
7. Your rights
No matter where you are, you can request that we:
- Provide access to the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete data that is no longer needed to provide the service or meet legal obligations
- Limit or stop certain uses where legally possible
If your local law grants additional rights (for example, certain data portability or objection rights under European-style data protection laws), we will respect those rights where applicable.
Account-level controls such as “delete account,” “download my data,” or granular notification settings are not yet fully implemented in the app but are part of the planned evolution. Until those exist in the interface, you can exercise your rights by contacting us directly.
8. Children
Akii is not designed for children.
Use of the app is intended for individuals at least 18 years old or at least the minimum age required in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the applicable minimum age. If we learn that such data has been collected, we will take reasonable steps to remove it.
9. Security
We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS)
- Access controls and permission separation in our infrastructure
- Limited internal access to production systems
No security system is perfect. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to reduce risk and to respond to incidents.
10. International transfers
Your data may be stored and processed on servers located outside your country, depending on where our providers host their infrastructure.
We choose providers that implement industry-standard security measures. When required by law, we rely on appropriate safeguards to protect data during cross-border transfers.
11. Third-party links
If at any point Akii includes links to external websites or third-party services, their privacy practices will govern any data you provide there. This Policy does not apply outside Akii.
12. Emails and notifications
We currently send only transactional emails, such as:
- Account-related communications
- Security or password reset messages
- Important updates about the service or this Policy
We do not send marketing or promotional email campaigns at this time.
13. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or want to exercise privacy rights, you can contact:
